It used to bother me when I read that the Christian New Testament canon and much of the doctrine of Christianity was instituted by a pagan Emperor (Constantine). Having been a Christian for decades when I was presented with such nonsense, I found “sources” that showed that Constantine was in fact a Christian, even if only a “death bed confession”. One can find “something” to support “anything”.    

I am no longer concerned about such matters because Jesus didn’t come to start a new religion anyway! But, let’s address some of the Council of  Nicea realitie 

1-Constantine was a sun-worshipping pagan, not a Christian.

2-Constantine USED Christianity to solidify his rule.

3-Constantine granted tax exemptions (still in place today in America) for the Catholic clergy and eventually exemptions for church land in order to tighten his control over the church and threaten them if they didn’t agree to his doctrinal desires.

4-Constantine declared that Jesus was HOMOOUSIOS (of the same substance) of God

5-Constantine oversaw and had final authority on all church doctrine at the Council of Nicea to the point where he ran off more than 75% of the Bishops who disagreed with him.

As Charles Freeman wrote, “Personal rivalries became so hopelessly entangled with theological wranglings that it is hard to separate them. Accusations of heresy, deceit, and fraud flew across the empire.” And it still does. Constantine was so arrogant and full of himself that he wrote in a letter to the church at Alexandria, “I have received from Divine Providence the supreme favor of being relieved from all error.” And we wonder where the idea that the Pope had came from? 

Constantine was compared to Moses by Christian historian Eusebius and a Christian hero of sorts. In his work “The Life Of Constantine” Eusebius is openly and unashamedly panegyrical; however the accounts at Milvan Bridge by Eusebius differ greatly from Lactantius who was actually there- in the battle. The FALSE disconnect comes when both Eusebius and Constantine equated killing and winning wars as synonymous to having the favor of God.

Didn’t Jesus preach PEACE?

The bottom line is that from the days of the life of the historical Jesus to today, there are various OUTER FORMS of Christianity; however, the only TRUE Christ Consciousness is the one Jesus presented and that was a KINGDOM WITHIN! The Spirit-Consciousness isn’t over there or out there, but IN HERE- in me and in you! My “Christianity” is a Spirit-Consciousness founded one: not an emperor, denominational, nor Strong Concordance created one.
